Purpose:
To establish and define the duties and responsibilities of the Tool Room Grinder hand position.
Scope:
The Tool Room Grinder Hand responsibility lies on grinding and sharpening tooling details that support the companies or customers tooling guidelines. The Grinder shall promote tooling policies to comply with the companies grinding standards. Knowledge of the production process is helpful to promote the company's continued growth.
Responsibilities:
Review details to be sharpened
Finish grind details to specified print dimensions
Communicates to Tool Leader when questionable concerns arise with new build or die maintenance problems occur
Assists in all activities regarding new die builds and die sharpening
Participates in the Internal Audit Process
Technical:
Effective in operating surface grinder and wet grinder
Must be able to use sine plate, radius dresser, spin index fixture (whirly-gig) and optical comparator
Safety:
Regularly review machine maintenance making sure all controls are operating properly with safety guards in place
Communicates to tool room manager when there are safety concerns
Responsible for maintaining good housekeeping practices for machinery in tool room
Competencies:
The Grinder should have a high school diploma or equivalent
Must be able to grind angles using sign plate
Must be able to grind forms using radius dresser
Must be able to hold size to within .0005
Continued education in a field that offers the opportunity to gain a well-rounded background is helpful
Education in management type courses and problem solving is helpful
